Oursansar

Children at school

SCHOOLS

We are supporting and working with Martyrs Memorial School, Anmol Jyoti Secondary School and Community Centres in Kathmandu and the Shree Kamala Secondary School in Hetauda. A vast number of children in Nepal do not have any access to education and Our Sansar makes it possible for them to gain qualifications they need to live independent lives in the future. Our aim is to benefit children from less privileged backgrounds and street children by providing them with adequate education and training.

VOLUNTEERS

We send volunteers from the UK on 5, 8 or 10 week programmes to teach various subjects at not-for-profit schools and community centres in Nepal. We provide the schools and community centres with all necessary equipment and materials. Our volunteers get a chance to experience living in Nepal and share their experiences from the UK or other parts of the world with children and adults from less privileged backgrounds. For news on the Our Sansar volunteers currently working in schools in Nepal please see here.

PLACEMENTSOur Sansar volunteer in Shree Kamala Secondary School

We send professional teachers and trainers from the UK on 1 and 2 year placements at not-for-profit schools and community centres in Nepal. Our aim is to work in partnership with these organisations and answer their needs in the best possible way so that it makes a positive impact on the local community.  Skills training is one of the most significant parts of the programme as we believe that by developing skills through training we can empower local people and communities that would not be able to afford any training or education otherwise.

STREET CHILDREN

We ensure that a number of street children in Kathmandu join one of the schools supported by us and that they receive adequate education. A vast number of these children are orphans and with no access to education and are involved in crime, prostitution and drug dealing and exposed to abuse. At Our Sansar we ensure that these children gain the same standard of education and care as other children their age. For more information on street children and their education concerns please see the article written by Jessica Haydon.

CHILDREN'S HOME

One of our current projects includes opening a children's home in Sitapur, outskirts of Janakpur, where we aim to provide constant help, education and training to the least privileged children, particularly street children. As with our other projects, we aim to provide qualified teachers from the UK and work with local qualified teachers to provide the best free education and training to those who ordinarily would not be able to afford it. Our Sansar are currently fundraising for this project. We participated in the sponsored 10km challenge in partnership with the Foundation for Social Improvement and we held a music night in Shoreditch in April, raising nearly £400.

SKILLS TRAINING

We hope that our skills training at schools, community centres and the children's home will benefit the whole community and allow street children, orphans and those from the poorest backgrounds to lead independent lives. There are no restrictions as to who can benefit from our projects, as our trainings can be provided to both children and adults. The main aim is to benefit a community as a whole.
