International Street Children's Day is here by Rikki Sullivan

Well we’ve been building up to this day for some time now, so I’m sure you most of you already know all about it! Here are some updates on activities around the country – with a dash of Nepalese cuisine in the mix to give you a delicious way to get involved!

Children at Grittleton House school have been very busy, with lessons about street children and Nepal inspiring them to make the day a real event for all of the students. They’ve designed posters to promote the day and will be wearing something bright to celebrate with all donations helping street children in Nepal. They’ve also taken the yummy route of appealing to the tummies and will be holding a tuck shop at break-time too! Have a look at their posters here

World of Difference by Rikki Sullivan

Fantastic news for Our Sansar; 4 volunteers have won placements on the Vodafone World of Difference programme. For the second year running for Our Sansar, this grant from Vodafone means an organisation otherwise run by volunteers working in their spare time, will for 2 months have the full time support of 4 members of paid staff.
The Vodafone World of Difference programme is a fantastic prospect for organisations like Our Sansar, as well as for the individuals granted this great opportunity.  With core funding for salaries being such a difficulty, particularly in today’s climate, the programme means committed individuals can dedicate their time for 2 months to making a real difference to their favourite charity.

Recipes for a Road Riot by Will Creagh-Barry

1.    KATHMANDU TO SAURAHA, CHITWAN
INGREDIENTS:
1 TICKETLESS AND TIRED WILL
1 TRIP NEEDED ON THE 2ND BUSIEST ROUTE IN NEPAL, AT THE BUSIEST TRAVEL TIME OF YEAR
GOATS, HEADING TO SLAUGHTER (ADJUST NUMBER TO TASTE)
HEAT DAY UP TO +30 DEGREES CELSIUS, WITH NO FAN OR AIR-CON.

METHOD:
•    Wake up at 5.45am, check out of hostel, and head to the tourist bus station, praying for a seat on any bus going to my destination, Chitwan National Park.
•    Arrive at bus station, ticketless, and encounter chaos. No idea which bus is the correct one, and absolutely no helpful signs. Ask officious-looking fella clasping a sheet of what looks like booking details. He tells me point-blank that although I have the correct bus-stand, there are no tickets whatsoever, on any bus – “It’s Dashain” is the reasoning. Turn up stress at this moment.
